FAQ’s

1.  How are drop-off and pick up handled?  

As a convenience for parents, we have a drive through drop-off at our Lifegate Preschool location in Omaha, Nebraska (15555 West Dodge Road, Omaha, NE 68154).  Parents are able to drop-off their children without getting out of the car. The student is greeted by the Lifegate Preschool Director and the Lifegate Christian School Security Officer and walked in to the building.  For pick-up, the students and teachers meet the parents at the dismissal door.  This allows for connection with Head Teachers and time for end-of-day discussions, as needed.

2.  Do you offer before or after school care?

We do not have a child care facility on-site. Therefore, there is no before or after school care available.

3. How do I know if High-Five is right for my child?

If you feel your child is not quite ready for Kindergarten, we offer High Fives as a great next step.  Please contact the Preschool Director, LeAnn Loghry, at lloghry@discoverlifegate.com or 402-905-3950 for more information.

4. Is Lifegate Preschool a daycare?

No, we are a part-time preschool program in Omaha, Nebraska. The students are in class for 2 ½ hours the days they attend.

5. How is preschool different from Sunday school?

We are a Christian preschool and model Christian principles. We are also considered a developmental preschool, as we focus on the whole child. A weekly Bible verse is featured and prayer is a part of every day, but Bible stories are not necessarily used, unless they go along with the unit we are studying during the week. In addition to the Christian components we focus on developing the students academically, behaviorally, socially and physically as they prepare for Kindergarten.

7.  How do you handle discipline?

When necessary we use a timeout. The student sits in a chair, placing their hands on their knees. A teacher talks to the child and when they are ready to respond as asked, they are allowed to reenter the activities. We will ask the student if we can pray with them during this time.  If there is an ongoing problem the teacher will contact the parent.

8.  What is your approach to security?

We take the safety of your children very seriously. The outside doors are locked at all times. A parent is able to press the button to the left of the doors if they need to pick up their child during classtime. They will have to let the preschool Director know why they are there in order to enter the building.  We also have a security officer on site at all times during the school day.

9.  Does my child need to be “potty trained?” And what is the Lifegate Preschool definition of “potty trained?”

Yes, the students are required to be potty trained. No pull-ups are allowed. Students need to be able to express themselves when they need to use the restroom, and they need to be able to attend to their needs. We of course are there to assist when necessary with zipper, buttons and snaps. We encourage parents to send their children to school in clothing that they can manage themselves. We understand that accidents happen and have clothing that can be borrowed if necessary.

10.  Do you offer parent/teacher conferences?

We have conferences two times a year. Once in the fall and once in the spring. The Head Teachers do assessments prior to the conferences so that we are able to discuss the child’s development and how we can work together as a team to help them grow and learn.

11.  Is there a program that the parents can attend?

We have two programs a year. One is the Christmas Program in December and the other one is our End of Year Program in May.

12.  What type of “field trips” are offered? Who drives to the off-site location?

Parents, friends or family members drive the child to our field trips or they can arrange with other parents to transport their child as we do not have a license to transport. We typically go to an age appropriate pumpkin patch in the fall, a fitness center in the winter and a dance studio in the spring. We have fire fighters and a fire truck visit in the fall and have an in-house animal experience towards the end of the school year.

13.  Are Lifegate Preschool teachers certified?

Our staff meets all the requirements that the State of Nebraska has placed for teachers that teach preschool. We also are required to have a number of in-service hours each year to keep the staff well informed and up-to-date.

14.   How will I know if there is a behavior problem with my child?

The teacher will contact you if there is a problem, and the parent is always welcome to ask the teacher at the end of the day.
